In the modern lexicon, the word "Arkharovets" means a hooligan, a mischievous person, a violator of public order. And at the end of the XVIII century, the soldiers of the Moscow garrison were called Arkharovs in Moscow after the Moscow governor-general, the Arkharov brothers, who were commanders of the Moscow regiment by position. By tradition, the regiments were called by the names of the commanders, so the Muscovites called the Moscow regiment among themselves Arkharovsky, and the soldiers Arkharovites. The eldest of the brothers, Nikolai Petrovich, had an outstanding talent as a detective, knew about everything that was happening in the city, with him not a single crime remained unsolved. But at the same time, he was reputed to be a rude and cruel man, there were rumors in Moscow about various horrors that were happening in the police station located on the corner of Myasnitskaya Street and Lubyanskaya Square, where Arkharov personally interrogated the arrested and where there was a terrible underground prison. His younger brother, Ivan Petrovich, was his complete opposite – gentle, kind, courteous to everyone. The Argali policemen took an example from their older brother and, feeling their impunity, in addition to fighting crime, they oppressed ordinary citizens in every possible way, as a result of which the word "Argali" acquired its modern meaning.

Шикарная иллюстрация! Спасибо за историю, оч интересная метаморфоза произошла со словом! Традиции сильнее времени, хотя злой и добрый следователи остались пожалуй в литературе и кино:))
Вера спасибо!)
