Kolomenskaya Versta
Muscovites jokingly call a tall, tall man "Kolomenskaya Verst" to this day. This expression is connected with the name of the village of Kolomenskoye, where Moscow princes loved to come since the time of Ivan Kalita. In the middle of the XXVII century, Kolomenskoye became the permanent summer residence of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, a magnificent palace was built here, a real "wonder of the world", which was famous for its rich decoration. On this occasion, a road was laid from Moscow to Kolomenskoye, smooth, sprinkled, with strong bridges, unlike the usual Russian off-road. High mileposts were dug along the road - according to legend, their height was two fathoms, that is, more than four meters. Usually in Russia in winter, when snow covered the road, milestones were placed along it – poles, poles with a bunch of straw so that the traveler would not lose his way. And the permanent mileposts on the way to Kolomenskoye were an innovation and a curiosity. Such roads began to be called stolbovye, and "Kolomenskaya verst", with the light hand of Muscovites, first in the capital, and then throughout Russia, a tall man.
